Course
Description This 4-day
seminar cum workshop will prepare the participants for immediate
application of the TAGUCHI TECHNIQUE to their projects. Participants will
understand how improvement in consistency is measured in statistical terms
and how experiments can be designed to improve it. The Taguchi robust
design strategy, which deals with treatment of the uncontrollable factors
and how to make the performance insensitive to the influence of the
uncontrollable factors by controlling those factors that can be
controlled, will also be covered in this course. . Practical application
steps, including brainstorming, team approach and consensus decisions are
demonstrated through example project applications. Concepts covered in
lectures are practiced and tested using numerous class exercises. A
discussion of advance techniques and analysis of experimental results are
covered during the last two days. Topics to be
covered
• Overview of the Taguchi concepts of
quality engineering
• Measuring cost of quality by loss
function
• Review basic concepts in experimental
design
• Project objective and overall
evaluation criteria
• Experiments designed using orthogonal
arrays
• Experiments to study interaction
• Basic analysis and strategy for
experimentation
• Experiments with mixed level factors
• Combination design (special design
tool)
• Strategy for robust designs
• Analysis of results
• Design and analysis using computer
software • Group
reviews & exercise • Computer
software (Qualitek – 4)

Engineering, Hyderabad
The JNTU College of Engineering was
established as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College in 1965 by the Govt of
A.P. After the formation of JNTU in 1972, it became a constituent college
of the University and was renamed as JNTU College of Engineering,
Hyderabad. The activities of the college are basically supported by the
budgetary allocation from the University funds. JNTU has above 200
affiliated Engineering colleges and 4 constituent Colleges. The JNTU
offers Ph. D. program in various disciplines, fifty PG Courses apart from
regular Engineering and Architecture UG programs.
PRRM Engineering College, Shabad
PRRM
Engineering College was established in 1998 and is affiliated to JNTU.
Presently the college offers B.Tech. degree programs in six branches of
engineering; ECE, EEE, ME, CSE, IT and ICE. Two batches of students passed
out with excellent results.
About the program
The Tguch I
TechniqueE is a powerful tool to design robust products and processes; to
solve production problems by reduced performance variations. During the
workshop the participants would be having hands - on experience to
implement the methodology effectively in various fields.
Practical project
applications are accomplished through hands-on computer exercises. Qualitek – 4
software (for design and analysis of Taguchi experiments) is used for the
computer workshop. The organizing institute will provide computer facility to
the participants during the workshop. However if the participants are having
their own laptop computers they are requested to bring them.
Dr. Ranjit K. Roy,
Ph.D., is an adjunct Professor (since 1976) with Oakland University and an
internationally renowned consultant and trainer specializing in Taguchi
approach of quality improvement. Dr. Roy has begun his career as senior design
engineer with Burroughs Corporation following completion of graduate studies in
engineering a the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1972. He then worked for
General Motors Corp.(1976-1987) assuming various engineering responsibilities
with his last position as that of reliability manger. Dr. Roy is a fellow of the
American Society of Quality. He is the author of two text books on the Taguchi
technique and of Qualitek-4 software.
